The Islay Hotel is nestled in the fishing village of Port Ellen overlooking the marina and harbour and is an ideal base for exploring Islay, whether you are coming for a walking break, golf holiday, distillery tours or just to relax and unwind.
The Islay Hotel was recently completely rebuilt to the highest standards with 13 rooms, restaurant and Whisky bar. Whilst young, we offer a traditionally friendly welcome.
Food is locally sourced and prepared with care and flair. Coffee, tea and home baking is available all day in the bar, or you can have a dram or a glass of wine in the evening. Local musicians regularly play in the bar (bring an instrument if you want to join in) and impromptu music evenings often produce lasting memories.
The Islay Hotel is the most southerly hotel in the Hebrides. The Island is warmed by the gulf stream creating an eventful climate, often truly seeing four seasons in one day !
It is the unique atmosphere of the Hebrides that captures visitors’ imagination – the peace, tranquility and beauty that permeates life on the Island, as well as the panoramic seascapes, wild landscapes, fresh Atlantic air and breadth of wildlife that creates this amazing natural environment. There is a magical sense of romance that leads many visitors to fall in love with Islay – many, including the hotel owner and chef, came for a short visit and ended up staying for good.
Getting here is easy. The Islay hotel is just 200 metres from the Calmac ferry terminal, with daily sailings throughout the year from Kennacraig, on the Mull of Kintyre. The Islay Hotel is a 10 minute taxi ride from Islay airport, with daily flights from Glasgow with Flybe.
