Accessibility at The Islay Hotel

The Islay Hotel was a ruin for 20 years before being totally knocked down and a new hotel built on the site of the old one. The new modern hotel building has been designed to make the hotel as accessible as possible for people with restricted mobility. Front door access into the hotel is all at the same level. The hotel also offers a Kone 8 person lift – 4.5 ft x 3.5ft and door entrance with width of 32 inches.

The restaurant is on the ground floor as is our disabled toilet. To access the bar you need to go down 7 steps. These are wide with a shallow riser. A wheelchair user with assistance can be carried down to the bar but that may not be acceptable to all. Alternatively drinks can be brought to guests in the restaurant when eating. All our doors have an 838mm opening and all our corridors are 1.25 metres wide.

The lift goes to the first floor where we have two rooms with extra spacious bathrooms for wheelchair users, one being a designated disabled bedroom and bathroom with walk in shower, the other being a spacious bedroom which has a large bathroom with bath and separate shower.
