Beaches On Islay

Sanaigmore Bay

Located in the far northeast of Islay, the journey to Sanaigmore Bay is sure to not disappoint. With its clear waters and white sands, it’s a perfect place to spend the day. Park at Outback Art where you can buy splendid cake and coffee and walk through the gap in the wall down to the beach.

Saligo Bay

Always a dramatic place to visit, whether it’s for the jagged rock formations on a calm day, the crashing waves on a gusty day or the enormous sky at sunset. Saligo is a favourite place for many to visit. Park near the gate located on the map and walk through the dunes.

Machir Bay

A stunning expanse of flat white sand with rolling Atlantic waves. A parking area means that it’s just a short walk over a bridge and through the dunes to the beach. Easy enough for old and young legs.

Claggain Bay

At the end of the road to Ardtalla you will find the wonderfully pebbly Claggain Bay. With views across to the mainland, you can happily while away a few hours here and the beach is just on the side of the road.

Kilnaughton Bay

Close to Port Ellen, Kilnaughton Bay is one of Islay’s most accessible beaches. Park at the cemetery or further along near the beach and its just a few steps onto the sand. The bay is shallow and perfect for a paddle with views across to Carraig Fhada Lighthouse and the Mull of Kintyre.
